The First Minister told Late Late Show host Patrick Kielty she would be travelling to the US for St Patrick's Day

Michelle O'Neill said she hopes the US government could bring the same "peace process" message they brought to Northern Ireland to end the conflict in Palestine.

The Sinn Féin First Minister was asked by Patrick Kielty if she was going to Washington for St Patrick's Day, and when she said she would be, the Co Down man said: "Would it not be more of a statement if you decided not to go this year?" She said the scenes from the conflict in Palestine are "absolutely horrendous" and said she hopes the visit on St Patrick's Day can be a message to the US government that peace is needed urgently.

Speaking about becoming the first nationalist First Minister of Northern Ireland, Michelle O'Neill said she is "really proud" of the achievement, telling Kielty she knows the role comes with "enormous responsibility" but that she's dedicated to working hard for people from every community.
