Reece Pickering, 17, from Great Yarmouth in Norfolk, found a Saxon coin in a farmer’s field in Topcraft, Norfolk, that was auctioned for £4,000. Walter Taylor, 16, who lives near Ongar in Essex found a Henry I silver penny in a field in south Essex which went for £3,100. The coin went under the hammer at Hanson’s Auctioneer in Etwall, Derbyshire, on Monday and sold for more than its guide price of £2,500 and £3,000.Schoolboy Walter found his Henry I penny dating back to 1106 when he was 15-years-old after he had been metal-detecting with his father and uncle for hours.
