Meta receives more than a million appeals over removed posts

Meta's independent system of appeals against its decisions to remove content on Facebook and Instagram had about 1.1 million cases in its first year.

Others featured an image of a dead child alongside text about whether retaliation was justified against China for its treatment of Uighur Muslims, andThe board overturned Meta's decision to remove the first two examples, but supported its decision to ban Mr Trump - although it criticised the "indefinite" time frame.

Board director Thomas Hughes said it looked for "emblematic" cases with "problematic elements" to take on. Anybody - including Meta itself - can appeal to it if they disagree with a decision to remove content. Of the 1.1 million cases received during the 14-month period, only 47 came from the firm. However, Facebook alone has more than two billion users around the world, making this a relatively tiny percentage of its vast content. It was also noticeable that relatively few complainants were from outside Western countries.

The oversight board is a waste of money - they did 40 out of a million complaints Money for nothing, can I have a job

If the oversight board wont bother doing their job Farcebook should make their AI read Australian or even English dictionaries. FFS Instagram used to refuse to allow me to put the name of the town I live in Dicky Beach I could use it without a space, or its a banned word

I have several farecbook accounts because they don't understand reality. Banned for half of this year- 2 months for using the word fag in comments about a media article re cigarettes. A month for daring to say the French got it right with aristocrats, bring back the guillotine

People still use farcebook? Wow!

I was one, 2 days ago. FB/Meta slammed me for commenting on a violent video of a man being stoned by some women in India ...and I said 'stone him'.

'ELLO 'ELLO. WHAT'S ALL THIS THEN? Would be interesting to get some people suggesting how to scale up human checks with social media and not rely on automated systems as that is the only way things get properly looked at. 350 million new photos posted a day apparently. How can that be properly checked?
