UK Weather

It has been a chilly and wet start to summer so far

Met Office forecasters predict that temperatures will rise next week bringing the mercury closer to 'near average'. The comes after the UK experienced its coolest first 10 days of June since 2020 - which forecasters said was due to the jet stream dragging unsettled weather across the UK.

In Greater Manchester, average temperatures of around 17C to 18C are forecast over the coming days. Then on Thursday, temperatures will rise to a maximum of around 20C with sunny spells expected. On Friday, the mercury will rise to 21C - bring temperatures closer to the average for June. Conditions next week are also set to be much drier with largely cloudy and sunny conditions predicted.

On the overall outlook for the North West from Tuesday to Thursday, the Met Office said: "Largely dry with sunny spells on Tuesday and Wednesday, although a few well-scattered showers are possible. On the UK long range forecast for Thursday to Saturday, June 29, the Met Office said although conditions will be finer, they may also be 'changeable'. Overall, temperatures will be 'close to or slightly above average'.

Forecasters said: "Initially fine conditions will likely prevail for most, with more changeable conditions with cloud and some rain being confined to the far north and northwest, temperatures will likely be close to or slightly above average. However, there is a small chance of an alternative scenario that initially an area of cloud could edge northwestwards from Europe and bring a couple of days of thundery rain and fairly hot / humid conditions to the southeast.

"Into the last week of June, changeable conditions are likely, with the focus for these conditions being across the north and west, with spells of more settled and drier conditions likely in the south and east. Nationwide, temperatures are expected to be close to or slightly above average."
