Meet five young creatives going the distance as a part of British Vogue and Youtube’s first FutureVisionaries competition. PaidPartnership

uses her canvases as a testament to female strength in all its guises – a practice she started while working with Syrian refugees nearly a decade ago. “I found that my understanding of the [Arabic] language as well as the universal language of art enabled me to build a connection,” she reflects.

“I began painting portraits of refugees whom I had met, to show the people behind the global crisis, whose personal stories are often hidden by statistics.” For her Future Visionaries entry, she compiled a series of portraits of Yazidi, Rohingya and Nigerian survivors of “conflict-related sexual violence”, whom she met while “organising trauma-healing art workshops in Iraqi Kurdistan, Bangladesh and Northern Nigeria”.
