Even for a college as unorthodox and reputable as Central Saint Martins, Elkayam is one of the few designers to graduate with a cornucopia of press, accolades and industry contacts under her belt.Elkayam explores the enigmatic Mata Hari, who was described by her French prosecutors as the greatest female spy of the 20th century. "Hari's self-obsession and sexual chemistry with men in uniform was of great inspiration to me," she says.
You would think that breaking a world record would be the pinnacle of her achievements, but Elkayam is most proud of graduating from Central Saint Martins. "My experience at college has encouraged me to embrace diversity and artistic ideas more than I did before," she tells me. To celebrate the occasion, the designer hosted a graduation party on Zoom in her garden, documented remotely by her close friend and photographer Tim Copsey.
