After a week’s break, Formula 1 will return this weekend with the first Chinese Grand Prix since 2019.
The best drivers of the world will once again race around the Shanghai International Circuit after the COVID pandemic hampered the last few editions of the Grand Prix.In a clip posted on social media, the British national anthem was being played out in the background, Verstappen then cheekily said: “Haven’t heard that in a while.”
A few years ago, the British national anthem was played regularly at F1 tracks around the world due to Hamilton’s dominance. Now, the Dutch national anthem has fast become the theme tune of the sport as Verstappen continues to dominate. Speaking ahead of the Chinese Grand Prix, the Red Bull driver said: “With the new cars, it will be a bit of an unknown. From the track side, it looks like they have repainted it, rather than resurfaced it.
“I don't know what that does to the grip of the track, so that's something we have to get on top of. It's the same for everybody but we just have to have a good FP1 and hopefully we don't have to finetune too much with the car. That will help hit the ground running for the rest of the weekend.”Verstappen added: “I think overall with the Sprint it's always a bit more of a question mark and always a bit more chaos involved, which I guess in a way is a good thing for F1.
