– Match ratings and comments on all Newcastle United playersWe asked Davey Hat-Trick to give us his match ratings and player comments after Chelsea 3 Newcastle 2.Before kick-off, I thought we had a good chance of winning this. I didn’t think Chelsea were very good and I still don’t. It’s just that we were worse.
We had a few good moments, including a couple of lovely goals, but seldom threatened a makeshift Chelsea defence. Our own defence was back to its worst and the midfield didn’t do much to stop Chelsea getting through. The passion, desire and belief that ran through the first 18 months of our new regime’s ownership seems to be evaporating and some players appear to be doubting their own ability.I can see us getting battered at Man City in the Cup and that would suck the last remaining drops out of the squad. Our season is in severe danger of petering out into mid-table mediocrityCould possibly have done better for the first goal but all of Chelsea’s goals could have been defended. Was involved throughout.
Partially redeemed himself with a goal-line clearance from Sterling but was probably relieved to be subbed off with an injury.I hate to say it but he doesn’t always look like he’s up for the fight. He was industrious, controlled, and committed.A bit anonymous and I thought he was at fault for Chelsea’s second.Didn’t think he should have been subbed off for Anderson. Others were much more deserving. He is a classy, classy player, but that was just about it. Not sure he’s a number 9.
He gave an interview saying he never got injured and Barnes’ hammy meant he was missing, so it was inevitable.I thought he improved our attack when he came on.Emil Krafth – 5I would start him at Man City.Too lively at one point and picked up our only yellow card.
