MasterChef 2024 judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace tease new challenges for series 20 and reveal what keeps the show fresh
Every single culture has different food, every person has a different view of food and everybody has a different taste of food. So we all have an opinion. For us on the show, it’s usually a positive or constructive comment and although it may be disappointing, it's never negative. It's never putting someone or something down.I think it's very simple.
Over the years we've had people cook with Ducasse and so many pioneers around the world. It's been an amazing, amazing 20 years. This year, of course, has been a great year. But there's going to be many, many more great, bright years to come.Oh yes, every year. Every time I look at these guys, it amazes me. It’s not just the fact that we've got food coming from all around the world and flavours and the introduction of new elements, but just watching the way in which people work.
There were three finalists on the first show. Thomasina Miers, Caroline Brewster, and a guy called Mark Todd and Mark basically tried to do Heston's food in the final. But, of course, Thomasina’s big thing was Mexican. That was probably one of the first times anybody had come on a cooking competition, if not TV, doing that sort of thing. It was quite adventurous and it wasn't classic at the time and I think the competition then was quite different.
