Mass protests in Poland amid EU law controversy

Poles backing EU membership have taken part in protests across the country, amid fears it could leave the bloc.

It sparked fears that Poland could exit the union, prompting calls for major demonstrations nationwide on Sunday. Donald Tusk, former President of the European Council and now leader of the opposition party Civic Platform, called on people to "defend a European Poland" at the rally in the capital.Reuters Wanda Traczyk-Stawska, a 94-year-old veteran of the Warsaw Uprising against the Nazi German occupation in 1944, spoke at one event.Leaders across the EU criticised the ruling by Poland's Constitutional Tribunal on Thursday.

Poland wouldn’t vote to leave the EU. Many Polish people will remember queuing around the block to get into the supermarket and finding that there was little in there when they got in. They probably look at how our situation is and It’s enough to put them off.

These people are protesting because they are the opposition & have no credible policies. All they want is free air time. Fact,Poland is not leaving the EU. Fact,Polish laws trump EU laws like in other countries, which is what this is about. The EU politicians are confused.

JakubKrupa About 100 000 people gathered only in Warsaw. Demonstrations took place in other major cities in Poland as well. Protests have been also directly related to the corruption and thievery of Law and Justice government.
