Headteachers welcomed the reintroduction of face masks in classrooms, saying schools and colleges would take it 'in their stride'.Secondary school students in England will have to wear masks in classrooms once again as the UK faces a surge inThe government said the recommendation for secondary schools and colleges will be temporary and will be in force until January 26, when 'Plan B' Covid measures are due to be reviewed.
The government will also be providing an extra 7,000 air purifiers to schools, colleges and early years settings to improve ventilation in classrooms. She said: “The fact that the government have provided the extra purifiers shows that it recognises the problem but with over 300,000 classrooms in England they have failed to provide an effective solution.”Staff absences due to Covid
But after the first week, schools, colleges and early years settings that are “significantly impacted by Covid-related staff absence” will have to ask for their inspection to be deferred, the government said on Sunday.

Absolutely disgusting making kids wear these gags to play along with the govs games. Omicron is nothing more than a cold yet they still push crap on the kids
There is this attitude of dither from Labour. Sounds so much like, 'Let's support this one Sounds good'.
Can we get the science and data that proves that masks actually work and that kids actually need them, and not from pharma back pocket doctors ,
Masks for mild variant? My 15 year old tested positive on New years eve. Insomnia for one night, slight nausea for 2 days, he vomited twice on the first day. Had pain in one knee for less than 24 hours. Now completely well. Time to get back to normal.
Madness! I worked as a dental nurse for 13 years and changed my mask after every patient to reduce the risk of cross infection! Wearing a face covering for days on end does nothing!
About time.
Stick it BorisJohnson educationgovuk what the hell is going on. These kids don’t need mask in schools this is all Bullshit
Yet another sign the Tories are out off touch with reality.
Polite replies please Triplevaxed every politician BorisJohnson NicolaSturgeon MarkDrakeford Keir_Starmer EdDaveyNews Conservatives TheLabourParty_ LibDems theSNP watch this every day No restriction should last 1 minute more than necessary
Thank you so much everyone for ur incredible support in 2021.I can’t tell u how much it’s meant to me. It’s been harrowing year for me. Ur support has always kept me going. Please keep supporting me in 2022 till I get out of this horrifying situation.
Wes Streeting is hardly the voice of reason.
The Tory MP doesn’t give a flying F about child health & safety, not child mental health / or the grifting Tory MP might have taken the pandemic serious right from the start. Stop interviewing those whose only motivation is political self preservation.
Excellent picture of a Scottish school pupil in a English piece about education
What about colleges & universities?
Most teachers love masks as it makes the pupils in their class more compliant. Control freaks.
Classic brits can’t possibly use some common sense and think for themselves.
The government one big joke they leave everything to the last minute

If they’re anything like the pupils up here, they’ll be wearing them like chinstraps most of the time. Alternatively, the pupils destroy them so they get sent out of class to get another one. The corridors are littered with discarded masks. Costing the schools a fortune.
Ur problem has been night clubs pubs events gatherings as u well no thsts why uk in this state with covid what blood difference is schools gunna make when there no restrictions on ur main spreaders above the people running uk are absolutely inadequate irresponsible
Should have kept them worn from the start
A lot of these children’s parents will have happily been mixing over Christmas and New Year. Maybe they should have considered this first 🤷🏻♀️we know how fast it spreads.
This is uncomfortable for children to keep these on all day. What happened to all the revellers on NYE wearing them? They are the ones spreading it.
Ok, but they were advised to do that from the moment omicron started spreading in the UK! Beginning of December, so I'm not sure why this is news? We playing with dog whistles again? 🙄
Government box ticking.
Won’t work as paper surgical and cloth fashion masks are useless
That's if schools have enough teachers to cover the classes with so many isolating.
Listen to this nurse. Birmingham Heartlands. She's asking people to stop shouting whilst she tells them to wait another 6 hours to see a doctor. This is our NHS in 2022. Surely we can do better than this. Surely? This isn't her job. Listen to how exhausted she is! NursesRock
Omfg. Some of the comments on here! Really! Is it child abuse? Ffs listen to yourselves get a grip 🤦🏻♀️
What!! Why?
So basically the government admits they are the spreaders. so they already know a spike is going to emerge 2 weeks back into Jan.
Oh ffs England…. Get a grip & help yourselves…. Yr govt is on holiday… 🤷♀️🤷🏼♂️
Schools in 🇨🇦 are being told to supply N35 construction masks to teachers
