Chelsea are about to pip Man Utd to a transfer that could have been a useful start to the summer.

In the height of the Glazer-run days at Manchester United, the club used to make lots of mistakes in the transfer window.

This summer's window could hardly be more important. After finishing the Premier League season languishing in eighth position – two places worse off than in 2019 and 2022, United's past two 'reset' windows – it's time to clear the dead-wood and start afresh. They could have helped themselves this summer, however, by snapping up Fulham defender Tosin Adarabioyo on a free transfer.

He is free, he is young enough to have years ahead of him in the side and while he may not be a superstar name – or even a first team regular – he could have boosted United's squad in a position badly needed.
