Manchester Airport has blamed staff shortages for long waits at security over the past month.

There have been long queues for check-in and security at Manchester Airport in recent weeks

It comes as travel organisation Abta said that travel bookings for this year are approaching pre-pandemic levels. Jet2, the second biggest holiday operator in the UK, is operating more flights this Easter than in 2019, for example.Mr O'Toole - the deputy chief executive of Manchester Airports Group - said the speed of the recovery for the travel sector since Covid restrictions eased had taken the airport by surprise, leaving it short-staffed.

"That unfortunately does mean on occasion there will be queues which are not acceptable, they're not what we're aiming for. , blaming Covid absences. British Airways has also scrapped some flights, although most had been made in advance.Thousands of holiday-makers have seen their travel plans disrupted or cancelled

To be honest we flew into Manchester 2 weeks ago and the only problem was the long wait for our bags which is normal for Manchester!

That's a hell of a long time to be queuing.

Why are you just highlighting M/C airport?

They are now getting revenue from the huge uplift in passenger numbers, so as a short term measure can’t they offer preferential rates to ALL staff currently working, a pat on the back if you like, AND ring around former security/baggage handlers to see if they fancy a few weeks?

holtaay 4-6 weeks…

Shit. So what day do I need to arrive, to get a flight in about a fortnight?
