The Premier League has announced its eight-man shortlist for the Premier League Young Player of the Year award.

Manchester United youngster Kobbie Mainoo has joined Manchester City duo Phil Foden and Erling Haaland on an eight-man shortlist for the Premier League 's Young Player of the Year award.

In total, the England international has made 21 Premier League appearances this season, scoring two goals. His maiden league goal secured a dramatic 4-3 triumph over Wolves at Molineux in February.READ MORE: United have six sales up their sleeve to address FFP transfer problem Foden, meanwhile, has enjoyed the best season of his career thus far, playing a starring role in City's quest for a fourth successive Premier League crown. He has scored 16 goals and registered eight assists in 32 appearances, including two hat-tricks.

Elsewhere, Haaland, who won both the Premier League Player of the Season and Young Player of the Season awards last season, has scored 25 goals and registered five assists in just 28 league appearances this term. He scored four times in last Saturday's 5-1 win over Wolves to establish himself as the firm favourite for a second consecutive Golden Boot.
