An elderly man sought urgent help for his mental health the day before killing his next door neighbour, a court heard on Wednesday.
He had been referred by his GP after concerns about his deteriorating mental state, but was told there was no hospital bed available by The Bridge mental health unit in Wells. A coroner’s report concluded that he died as a result of multiple stab wounds to his face, neck and torso. But a plea of manslaughter by reason of diminished responsibility was later accepted by the Crown Prosecution Service.Appearing before Bristol Crown Court on Tuesday, he was issued with an indefinite hospital order under Section 37 of the Mental Health Act after entering a guilty plea.
