Man jailed for 'Jo Cox' threat to Anna Soubry

A man who threatened Change UK leader Anna Soubry, referencing the murdered MP Jo Cox, has been jailed for a year.

The message read:"Cox was first, you are next" and referred to Ms Soubry as"treacherous" and"worthless". "Ms Soubry and her staff in the constituency office understandably found the message deeply disturbing and highly offensive.

JuliaHB1 Absolutly no excuse to ever threaten anyone especially elected officials, they must be free to represent their constituents, even alleged nazis like anna soubry who is an alleged nazi. It was on bbc news so it must be true.

JuliaHB1 This was clearly a disgusting act but a custodial sentence, really? Yobs who have beaten people up get away without being imprisoned. Our judiciary consistently make rather questionable decisions lately.

I will be more than pleased when she loses her seat, but any threat to anyone is completely not acceptable.

A year for sending a letter seems extreme in comparison to the lack of protection offered to victims of stalking, many of which could only dream of such firm action being taken against those making their lives a misery. But then they are just ordinary plebs not MP's.
