The tragic death took place at the Antiville bonfire

The emergency services were called to the incident at the Antiville bonfire off Linn Road in the town following reports that a man in his 30s had fallen from the bonfire.

The local community has been deeply saddened by the tragic death with Craigyhill Presbyterian Church Minister Ben Preston saying: "Just home from the Antiville bonfire in front of the church, the scene of a tragic death this evening. As a church, our deepest condolences are with the family and community of Antiville and Craigyhill. Our thanks go to the Ambulance Service, PSNI, and Fire & Rescue Service for their work tonight.

"Flowers can be left on our church fence, you'll be welcome to join us for worship at 11am, and in the afternoon we'll open a drop-in for the community to come and chat or pray, or just have a cup of tea. We'll be here for you tomorrow."Tagit Tullycarnet in East Belfast said: " Heartfelt sympathy sent to the families of a Bonfire builder in Larne who has tragically passed away last night at the bonfire. So sad.

While those from the Old Mossley Community Bonfire in Newtownabbey said: "Old mossley bonfire would like to pass on its deepest sympathy to the family of a fellow bonfire builder in Larne after the unfortunate tragedy that happened tonight in the Antiville estate in Larne."Please be aware that if you are building or attending a bonfire they are dangerous. Please ensure that you are building them in a safe way as possible and/or be aware of how close you are standing as it's lit.

Health and safety needs addressed

Hope he's ok ☹️

Drink in whit out

See this is why they should be illegal but the police wont do anything about these bonfires

But it's just a fun family event, no?! Is this what culture looks like? Another year, another embarrassment. I'm sure their family will rest easy knowing the death was 100% avoidable. What a tragic, ridiculous waste.

Ah ffs there's someone dead now. Would yous ever wise up and knock this crap on the head? What's wrong with the beacons?

My heart bleeds. Was he placing the tri colour at the top at the time. If not he could have used it as a parachute ffs.

The bloody protocol attacking loyalist culture has finally claimed a life …. Who’s liable the EU?

Culture

To those within the republican/nationalist twatterari community that see this as an oppertunity to falsely give their condolences to the family and then continue on with a 'but'.....just dont. Have some repsect and leave the 'buts' behind, you're only embarrassing yourselves.

Condolences to the family. But the fact is that things must change. No one, with any decency in them, can continue to justify these health hazards. Controlled beacons must be the way forward.

Wonder what Moore has to say for himself now.

All the gloating bigots ffs have some respect.

This should not of happened No safety around these fires

A tragedy no doubt but let's be honest it was only a matter of time

Was he not wearing his safety harness?

They won’t be talking about that. 2 years in a row, one lad badly burnt now another lad lost his life. And his community won’t care

My 🍆 is bigger

Who's fault that? Was just a matter of time. This the culture they talk about someone dies? Hsenigov allow this to happen without any concerns for H&S. Any building site would be closed down a long time ago. Those that build it so be fined

The Twelfth: Appeal for calm ahead of Eleventh Night bonfiresIt comes after the police said they were treating an incident where petrol bombs were thrown near a bonfire as a hate crime Should be appealing to nationalists to cease causing trouble at the Adam Street bonfire! No leadership from the councillors etc from the new lodge who have been egging on trouble at it Nowhere else on earth can a Kulture be more toxic. The british government should take all Planters back & join in their celebrations by tramping the streets most of the year whilst trashing the country. Great to see all the bonfires throughout the country, hope everyone enjoys themselves and stays safe.👏🇬🇧🇬🇧 Nir
