The early kick-off is not ideal – although City have had a full week to prepare for it – and Guardiola expects the dry pitch to work against his side at Craven Cottage. But they must adapt to the conditions and simply get three points, which would see them leapfrog Arsenal at the top of the Premier League.
Stones has had setback after setback this term, only making 27 appearances, of which only 11 have seen him complete 90 minutes. He has not played a full game in a month, but remains City's best defender and one who can transform the team with his marauding runs into midfield. Who drops out? With a full squad to choose from, Guardiola must leave out one outfield player from his squad – an issue he has rarely faced all season. Last weekend it was Oscar Bobb, although there were question marks over whether he had trained in the week. At Fulham, maybe Sergio Gomez could be the name to miss out.
Klopp's mannerisms and interviews in recent days suggest he is resigned to the fact. He certainly isn't talking like someone expecting to be lifting the Premier League trophy next weekend. Klopp even suggested this week that one title for Liverpool is worth five for another club – just as well, because he currently has one title to City's five during his tenure at Anfield.
But Guardiola doesn't think that Fulham having nothing to play for will have any impact on the fixture. "I never met one player or manager who wasn't focused to win the game, never in my life," he insisted.
