The defender insists Manchester City will not settle for second-best and believes his side are on a good footing ahead of playing Arsenal.

Manuel Akanji believes Manchester City are in a strong position heading into the season’s run-in and says the club are not prepared to settle for second place.

Many believe a win for the champions will dig a mental dagger to the heart of Arsenal’s crown hopes and Akanji, currently working with a mental coach, has outlined the mindset Pep Guardiola has instilled in his players at such a crucial stage of the calendar. “We now have two big home games against Arsenal and Villa. We're still in the race for three titles, so I think the season has been good – it's not great, but we're on a good path.”

Asked if there are moments when City players boil over during intense games, Akanji replied: “It happens sometimes, but that's normal. You need to have it.
