The latest news from the Manchester City academy ahead of a big week for Ben Wilkinson's under-18s.

As Manchester City's transitional season continues at the top of the academy, the under-18s are continuing to lead the way and keep up their hunt for a treble - but Manchester United stand in the way.

Reduced to 10 men on seven minutes and a goal down from the resulting free-kick, Ben Wilkinson's side found a second half equaliser and looked set to force penalties until a heartbreaking 119th-minute winner for the hosts.

The last four tie must be played by Saturday April 6, limiting the availability of the Etihad. City's senior team have two home games in the next week, with the women's team beating United last weekend, coupled with the international break taking many players away from the CFA. So with no opportunity to use the Etihad, and other limitations on squad availability, the semi-final will be at the usual venue of the Joie Stadium.

Date set but no venue for PL Cup final As well as the FA Youth Cup, City's under-18s are still within range of retaining their U18 Premier League North title which they have won for the last two years. An incredible effort from Manchester United saw them set the pace early on, with City coaches calm over their drop to second given their own points totals have stayed consistent with previous seasons.

U21s set for early end to season The Elite Development Squad could be put out of their misery in the coming week after a nightmare season. Sitting second bottom of the revamped Premier League 2 after winning the title for the past three years, the new format kept alive the unlikely chance of winning something. After each of the 26 sides in the division play 20 regular-season games, the top 16 take part in a play-off tournament to determine a champion, MLS-style.
