The victim was alerted his card had been stolen by a message from his bank

A burglary victim was alerted his card had been stolen by a message from his bank. The Monzo bank card was taken from his property, in Sutton-in-Ashfield, and then used in McDonald's on September 5 last year.

The householder was woken by a notification from the bank an attempt was made to use the card in McDonald's - but his account was empty, Nottingham Crown Court heard on Monday . The burglary happened when he was sleeping between 2am and 7am. Offender Martin Toon, 31, was not behind the burglary but certainly had his hands on the man's card, as CCTV showed he was behind three attempts to use it, which would have amounted to just over £15. Toon, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to handling stolen goods and was given a consecutive sentence of three months and one month each concurrently on three fraud charges.

But, additionaly, he received 12 weeks for breaching a suspended prison sentence for burglary and two weeks concurrently from another suspended sentence. Lesley Pidcock, mitigating, said Toon was homeless before his remand into custody and is now off drugs.
