A pensioner had to tell friends and relatives he is ‘still here’ after a local newspaper printed an obituary for man with the same name from the same area who also had a wife called Pam.
The tribute, printed in the Western Morning News on April 17 read: ‘JONES William Passed away peacefully at home on 4th April 2021 aged 87 years. Devoted husband of Pam.’ Bill discovered his late namesake lived 15 miles away in Exeter, but addresses were removed from obituaries amid concerns of people being burgled during funerals.Bill’s late namesake also had a wife called Pam
‘Another person I know saw me coming up the other side of the road and looked me up and down and said “Core bugger, you gave me a fright, I thought you had passed away”.
