Major incident declared in Lancashire after suspected gas explosion

A major incident has been declared following a suspected gas explosion at a row of houses in Heysham, Lancashire.

Lancashire Fire, which sent 10 engines to the scene, said firefighters were searching the collapsed property. "We are asking people to please avoid the entire area while we deal with this ongoing incident," the force said.

Despite using flameproof equipment, hazardous areas cannot be made explosion proof.

Second one in a couple of weeks - very sad that lives and homes have been lost. Insurance might not pay out either. I avoid living in gas-connected properties if I can. Within this century we'll run out of gas anyway and people will have to move to electric.
