M61 live traffic as police incident forces motorway to shut

between Junction 6 and Junction 8 because of what has been described as a 'police led incident'. National Highways expect the road to be closed for a number of hours.

Motorists are being warned to avoid the area and a diversion has been set up. Traffic caught in the closure is tailed back.Highways England has provided a diversion route and are advising people to allow extra time for their journeys. Road users travelling northbound are advised to follow the Solid Triangle diversion symbol on road signsAt the A6027/A6 roundabout take the 2nd exit onto the A6 northbound.At the roundabout take the 2nd exit onto the A674 eastbound.Road users travelling southbound are advised to follow the Hollow Square diversion symbol on road signsAt A674/A6 roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto the A6 southbound.This is a live blog and we'll provide you updates as we get them.
