Lucy Letby tells her retrial she never tried to harm any babies in her care

Lucy Letby today denied attacking any babies in her care at the Countess of Chester Hospital when she gave evidence at her retrial.

Jurors at Manchester Crown Court have previously been told that following a long trial that ended last year, the defendant was convicted of the murders of seven babies and the attempted murders of six more. The barrister referenced a list of Letby's previous convictions which the jurors have already been told about and he asked the defendant: "Do you accept you ever intended to hurt any baby in your care?"The KC continued: "Do you accept you have tried to harm any baby in your care?"Letby told the jurors she did not recall the events in nursery one where the alleged attack is said to have happened during the morning of February 17, 2016.

"Do you recall any incident where Dr Jayaram came in when he saw something like that happening?" asked the KC.Asked if she had any recollection of Dr Jayaram coming into the nursery when she was there, the defendant said: "No, I don't."
