Love Island couple Jess Harding and Sammy Root are back in Blighty and more in love than ever being crowned summer 2023 winners.
Having gone through ups and downs on the show – like Sammy getting to know other girls and being voted the least compatible couple – they finally made amends after Casa Amor and haven’t looked back. And when we catch up with them for their first exclusive shoot, they explain that despite their earlier challenges and ultimatums, there is now solid trust between them.
However, Jess makes a cheeky joke as to how they celebrated when the cameras were switched off. “Wouldn’t you like to know?” she giggles. “It wasn’t very nice to read, but I think I looked alright for the rest of the Love Island time,” she says of the comments. Jess adds, “To be honest, I’ve heard there’s all these negative comments out there but I’ve not really seen anything, so I’m quite happy. I’m sure if I went fishing for the negativity it would be there, but the support is crazy. I didn’t actually realise how many people love me – remember that, Sammy!”Now they’ve had a few days to digest their victory, why do they think they were crowned winners?
“She’d only been gone for a matter of hours, but the fact I knew I wasn’t going to see her for the next few days, I suddenly got some new feelings coming up,” he tells us. “And throughout those days, I really missed Jess. I thought, ‘This is definitely something I want’. And later on, when Josh came in as a bombshell and chose Jess, I thought, ‘Right, I want to make this girl my girlfriend.’ As soon as we got a text about Casa I realised I’d made a few mistakes and I wanted Jess.
