Casting had already begun on the summer 2020 series of Love Island, with ITV‘Rising stars on social media had also been tapped up by producers, who were already picking out their favourites,’ an insider told The Sun.
‘Everything will be deferred to the winter version and everyone who was being lined up to appear in this series will be asked to see if they can appear in that series. ‘It’s a devastating blow to the entire team working on the show, as well as ITV as a whole but the safety of their contestants and anyone working on Love Island is paramount.’
Love Island host Laura Whitmore, who replaced Caroline Flack for the first ever Winter Love Island earlier this year, said: ‘Like with a lot of things because of restrictions with travel, social distancing and unable to plan ahead, Love Island is postponed until 2021. ‘Great news is that there have been more applications then any other series! Next year is going to be BIG. Stay safe.’Speaking at a controller session at the Edinburgh TV festival, Lygo began: ‘With Love Island, you know, it’s the first of these big shows with I’m A Celebrity, it’s November/December, I don’t think we can talk about it now but we’re looking at alternatives.Love Island is available to catch up on ITV Hub.
