Les Intouchables already is a Hollywood-style feelgood comedy. Why remake it? If American audiences are really that averse to subtitles, just dub it (and maybe use some Hollywood CGI-magic to make the mouths move realistically)
Not to mention that they usually fall short from the quality of the originals.
Hollywood l could just release the original films to a wider audience in the US and give viewers a chance to make up their own minds instead of sanitising and refitting them as star vehicles. Or take a lead by coming up with equally original ideas.

The problem is that people lose more and more the ability and willingness to deal with views and complexities (such as culture incl. humour) that they are not used to. Maybe because they are overwhelmed by the complex and strange reality already, maybe because empathy declines.
