A lorry has burst into flames this evening, forcing the M62 to be completely closed by emergency services. Both Merseyside and Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service are currently on the M62 between J7 and J8 , with the motorway closed in both directions.
Pictures shared by Widnes Fire Station show huge flames coming from the HGV and thick black smoke billowing into the sky. Emergency services were called to the incident shortly after 8.30pm. Highways North West said it was likely the motorway will be closed 'into the night' as crews continue to tackle the flames. Traffic has been stopped in both directions.
