The London Clinic's chief executive, Al Russell ,has said that “all appropriate investigatory, regulatory and disciplinary steps will be taken”.

The London Clinic where Kate Middleton was treated for abdominal surgery earlier this year has spoken out for the first time after an alleged data breach by hospital staff.

Al Russell, chief executive, said in a statement: "Everyone at the London Clinic is acutely aware of our individual, professional, ethical and legal duties with regards to patient confidentiality. It came as health minister Maria Caulfield said this morning that she understood police had been contacted in relation to the matter, although a Metropolitan Police spokesman said he was not aware of any referral to the force.

Homerton Fertility Centre in east London has seen three cases of embryos not surviving the freezing process in the last year, trust officials say.
