Here is what to look out for on Sky News after votes take place to elect more than 8,000 councillors in 248 English councils.

The early-declaring councils are strong Brexit-voting areas. Electoral turnout is bound to fall - these elections were last fought on general election day 2015 - but how far? A massive drop, into the 20-25% region, and this becomes the"stay at home" election.Another 11 declarations are due, Sunderland amongst them. UKIP is contesting every ward here, but the omens are not good for Nigel Farage's former party.

By now almost 500 seats being defended by the Conservatives have been decided. If our screen counter is showing in the region of a hundred losses for Mrs May then expect a lot of Twitter traffic, discussions of betting odds and where's Boris?"Governing party losses expected at this stage of the parliament";"Labour not winning over new voters";"Corbyn unelectable" - although mindful of cross-party talks on Brexit personal attacks might be off-limits.

By this time we will also have a clearer idea of the scale of any Conservative defeat. We will know the result in 1,700 Conservative-held seats. By now the airwaves will be full of claims, counter-claims and recriminations. In the past we've had cabinet re-shuffles.Sky News will be reporting from Calderdale where Labour currently forms a minority administration but requires just two gains to secure an overall majority for the first time since 1999.

Last year the Conservatives gained two seats from Labour against the national trend. Labour needs a net gain of three seats to take control. Some 38 councils make this the busiest hour but the die will have been well and truly cast at this point. Almost 1,000 Conservative-held seats will be declared - an opportunity for the counter to move swiftly.

Voter ID trial at local elections is a waste of time, say campaignersID required in 10 districts, but Labour and Electoral Reform Society say scheme should be dropped “voter ID pilots... will negatively impact ethnic minority communities, older people, disabled people and students.” It’s almost as if we hold certain groups to a lower standard. Why are leftists unable to do what other people can easily do? If I have to pick up a package at the Postoffice I have to show photo ID. Nobody complains then. So what’s the issue here?
