It has been reported that some Tory MPs are preparing to vote with Labour to prevent measures announced by the chancellor on 23 September, including abolishing the top rate of income tax.

In a sign that the leadership is now indeed on a collision course with many of its own MPs over the mini-budget, former cabinet minister Julian Smith posted on social media:"The first job of an MP is to act in the interest of their constituents and in the national interest. We cannot clap for carers one month and cut tax for millionaires months later."

"You can't go on year after year without reviewing your core. That is good business. It's good leadership," he told Sky News's Ridge on Sunday programme. He continued:"So a different way of thinking was required. And the huge majority of investment in the financial statement was about that different way of thinking."

Mr Gove told the BBC Ms Truss was right to acknowledge that"there needs to be a recognition of mistakes", adding:"But it is still the case that there is an inadequate realisation at the top of government about the scale of change required. While she argued that the government"simply didn't have time" to publish OBR data alongside Mr Kwarteng's mini-budget.Liz Truss 'a danger to the economy'in a fresh poll - as Labour jumped to a 19-point lead.

Just like Thatcher don't like it because she can not get her own way

...but she is the First Lord of the Treasury. The buck stops with her.

I wonder why the top 1% are so desperate… this is not even packaged a little bit better. And outright forceful, not a bit of long term thinking. Are most of them having trouble financially?

Of course that is not my fault.

Big boy done it and ran away!

And you just allowed it to go through. Do you think people will buy that?

news batterization, shee I hope English conservatives can pass through their liquidation, & the EU military doesn't pick up anything more from England. It knocks all the conservative colored countries currencies before it has 'English'/'Western' conservatives invade them.

Not me Gov honest🤣🤣🤣

What plan? A plan has to be practical to be a plan otherwise it's just an ideological dream isn't it?

Quick pass the parcel before your OUT

A good idea

Diirrrty

The blame game……like Bojo didn’t know about the parties, it wasn’t DizzyLizzy’s idea…… 🤡🤡🤡🤡💩show

Oh dear - trussliz started already - doing a Johnson and blaming anyone else. Will not end well.

BethRigby 🚌

She's doing a brilliant job for me

A scapegoat to blame

The blame game, you are PM, you own it.

Trying to throw him under the bus Problem is she's the one that's left to make the decision if she said yes to allow it the buck stops with her And the want to take our right to strike away to improve productivity BUT LABOUR OR THE UNIONS AREN'T SAYING ANYTHING I WONDER WHY

So much for backing him up

She still had to agree to it....

I like a bit of honesty

This is all a good ploy by Boris, resign then get Truss voted in as PM knowing she would mess up straight away and then hope that everyone will plead for him to return.

Loyal to a fault.

zzzzzzzzzzzz

Under the bus😀

BethRigby Little good in any of this from Truss and Kwarteng, but the sly little act of disowning the top-rate tax decision is one of the nastiest, ugliest pieces of hypocrisy she has pulled yet. Early warning of who’s next under the bus when expedient.

Who is the PM exactly?

Wasn’t Kwarteng reported to be quaffing Champaign with hedge fund bosses shortly after delivering that financial nail in the countries coffin? This should just reaffirm what we already know! GE now!

Coward

While all you heard out of her mouth was *tax cuts* of course she threw Kamikwazi under a double decker bus 🙄It wasn’t me it was him.

She’s not opposed to throwing people under the bus, is she? Kwasi and the Bank of England. Great team player she is not!

Way to throw him under the bus ...

trussliz thats it pass the buck! You obviously ok’d it so you are as bad!

That’s right blame everyone else does she not realise she is the so called boss

Remind me never ask trussliz to be an alibi she throw you under the bus.... LauraKuenssberg hedidit

Not Me Your Honour I Wore Gloves backbone.what on earth made Tory MP'S to Vote for Her

Oh aye. 🙄

Its evident that TrussLiz_PM is not going to change track. We are about to embark on tax cuts for the richest paid for by cuts in public services which will impact the poorest and destroy the economy. Tory MPs you will all be judged on your actions this week.

Liz and her crew are well off so don’t need to worry about paying their bills if finding food

Blame game ! How could she ? Sounding more like Boris every minute.

Always passing the book, the lot of them. Bunch of bellends.

Blaming KwasiKwarteng isn't a good look

Perhaps the perfect metaphor for Truss and her stinking decision making.

JackMcg10941392 Wow, it wasn't me, he just did it. Do people actually believe that!! Trusslies TrussCatastrophicBudget

If KwasiKwarteng is prepared to walk things back a bit that would help, but failing that, I don't see how trussliz can expect to keep him. We all need our taxes cut. Better to borrow to boost the economy, then cut taxes as GDP increases.

Get him under that bus!

Liz Truss is already exhibiting the typical Tory tendencies, back stabbing and knifing a close friend, and colleague! Funny enough? half the country knew she would pull this stunt to also save her bacon! It might be curtains for them at any rate, one opines.

That’s it blame someone else. YOU are the PM ffs. Tories always blaming someone else….

Here’s a headline for you: “A-Liz in Wonderland” - Liz Truss says we need to ‘grow the pie’, as experts wonder how you ‘grow’ a pie? Truss’ reality bending metaphor confuses as she bends the reality of how an economy works.

Incredibly self congratulatory & smug 😘

Thrown Kwasi under the bus after two weeks. Strong leader my ass

Always great when your Boss ‘has your back’ 😂🤡

She didn't keep the bus free from bodies very long.

If she thinks she can throw KwasiKwarteng under the bus and she gets away with the latest torychaos ToryCostOfLivingCrisis she's wrong. Both of them need to go!TrussMustGo

Pointing fingers already lol

KwasiKwarteng thrown under the bus already 😂😂😂

So it's not Trussconomics after all. According to her, it's Kwartengconomics. I guess, as usual, she's just having a laugh.

The blame game? This early? 🤣🤣

And the media Hates it

She has lost the tory party the next G E and the countries support plus the seats of all the red line seats boris and his government took from labour with promise leveling up not trickle down. She could do honorable thing and resign eh liz.

Oh, please just stick to cheese!

Straight under the bus for Kwasi Modo. 🤣

Forget it was the chancellors idea, the the person in charge, don't try a bit a blame shifting,it won't wash,if you've got it wrong, hold your hands up,and change it.

But could she have not said no

Reverse it then to a higher rate but not 45% because that is a little too high imo.

So she admits it was insider trading. Sack him

Ooft....threw KamiKwasi under a bus there. The Tories imploding gathering pace. Delicious. Never thought I'd be looking forward to watching a Tory conference.....

It may well have been the Chancellors idea but as the sign that used to be in the POTUS desk said ‘the buck stops here’

Anyone noticed very peculiar intonation? Clearly Truss has an implanted mechanical device (like a political Tom Tom) powering her tongue. But which think tank is pulling the strings? Where's the money coming to finance this mechanical device?

I think this is a ‘hello Liz, goodbye Liz ‘ situation.

So already throwing people under the bus. Great going Tory member voters, you've found a trustworthy one there.

She's always blamed others for her shortcomings. GetLizHome

I never thought I’d live to see the day but I think the Tories might be polling on 20% soon…🔥🇬🇧
