LIVE: Teachers strike as schools shut - updates from picket line

as thousands of teachers walk out over pay. Members of the National Education Union are taking industrial action today .with four of those days affecting the North West.

Students with upcoming exams and vulnerable children have been prioritised for a limited place inside their school today, following guidance from the Department for Education . Some schools are staying completely open, while others are fully closed. It's part of a dispute over teacher pay. The NEU says today's action follows a series of real-terms pay cuts over the past decade, while this year's pay rise offer of 5% falls well below inflation.

Get back to work .holding us to ransom after a 2 yr crisis is almost criminal, while trying to justify your greed by using children as pawns.

Obviously they’ll ALL be manning a picket line today fighting for what they want yes? Definitely won’t be an extra duvet or shopping day for most of them that parents have to take time off work for.
