The 34-year-old actor, who plays DS Steve Arnott in the BBC drama, ditched his character’s Birmingham accent and spoke in his natural Scottish twang much to the surprise of audiences.

As soon he opened his mouth presenters Simon Rimmer and Tim Lovejoy of the Channel 4 chat show were stunned, with Tim commenting: ‘I’m not sure I like you speaking like that.Martin Compson’s accent completely floored us all Shocked fans flocked to Twitter in disbelief over Martin’s voice with some even thinking there was an impostor in the studio.While another added: ‘Wow! Anyone else gobsmacked that @martin_compston fromMartin was born in Greenock in Scotland and is a former professional footballer, having played for Aberdeen and Greenock Morton.

It's just like David_Tennant in bbcdoctorwho, I was surprised but their normal accents suit them both. Actors have to give up a part of themselves just to entertain us all. I'm not sure I could do it if I had an accent like that.

nikkimol I knew he was Scottish. He was in a film called Sweet Sixteen a few years ago. It was a Scottish film similar to Trainspotting.
