Linda Nolan in plea to ITV over 'horror film' Emmerdale storyline

The 65-year-old expressed her disappointment over recent scenes in which Chas Dingle was diagnosed with breast cancer. Linda, from Blackpool, is also battling cancer - and urged soap bosses to 'go gentler'.

She said: "Soaps do a great job raising important awareness but when it comes to Chas Dingle and her breast cancer diagnosis I find myself wishing they'd go gentler. Her fear is screaming at me." "I'd urge the scriptwriters to find the positivity too," she pleaded. Linda explained: "This is truly frightening and I'd urge readers to sign the petition for Enhertu's approval to be reconsidered. As women we're told to check, go to the doctor with any problem, then undergo treatment if we need it and the outcome can be good.

Chas actress Lucy Pargeter admitted to "welling up" over the scenes. The actress said: "It is always daunting when someone trusts you with a storyline like this. I did feel a huge responsibility and all I hoped was that I could do it well. I have found myself welling up filming the scenes. The writers have done a tremendous amount of research on the subject which they have shared with me.

She said: "I'll stay as long as they'll have me." She told MyWeekly magazine: "I don't think I will ever make the decision to leave myself. They'll have to write me out, but even then they'd have to drag me out kicking and screaming! I've got a job that I love and I'll stay as long as they'll have me."
