The costs of the branded butter and the supermarket own brands have been compared in a yearly study, and they had all risen in price.

Shoppers have been left floored by the cost of Lurpak and cheaper alternatives at supermarkets all over the UK.

The Mirror reports that people were aghast at the price of Lurpak reaching as high as £7.50 in some places last year. In fact, the latest statistics show that only three out of 30 ites cost less in shops and supermarkets than they did 12 months ago. "While we don't set the prices on the shelves, we do work closely with the retailers to ensure our farmers receive a fair price for the milk they produce."

Another shopper put: "The biggest difference I notice is the increased price of Norpak, up about eight times in a year from £1.55 to about £2.50 now."
