I suppose if you work a 40 hour week and it's reduced to 32 hours a week do you only receive pay for 32 hours, I bet virtually everybody would support reduced hours if their pay stayed the same, but I don't think that would be happening

Don't kid yourselves. It will turn into nothing more than a horrendous weekly schedule of 4 on 3 off, 10 hour days that will be a rotating cycle. Companies want the 40 hour pound of flesh for full time salaried employees, and nothing less. Some businesses run 24/7 365.
