Letters: I lost my place at medical school because my A-level grades were downgraded

about the education secretary Gavin Williamson with interest and agree that this politician has been promoted far beyond his pay grade and often seems strangely detached from reality. I struggle too with the notion that he was an efficient “take no prisoners” government whip with his laidback persona. Perhaps he bored them into submission, obviously with the help of his pet tarantula, if his agonisingly slow and deliberate speech did not do the trick.

Don't you have the option to take your actual exam in October? Or accept your mock exam results? I know medical students who have taken several approaches into medical school when their A level results were disappointing

Don't give up - you will get to be a doctor if that is your calling. Appeal if necessary. Persistence can overcome disadvantage and unfairness. I wish you success.

This is absolutely disgraceful!!! This must be fixed!!!🤬😡

I don't think there is any country in which the grades the schools give to their pupils are not compared and put on the same scale. In a school which has better pupils, it is more difficult to a A:s than in a school less good pupils, because all grades follow Gauss distribution.

Thank Elon
