His death was confirmed by the staff at the music icon’s recording studio, Electrical Audio in Chicago. Known for his profound influence on indie rock both on stage and behind the mixing desk, Albini is remembered as one of the most important figures in the history of the American underground rock genre.

He said: ‘That’s where I cut my teeth, in that independent scene full of punks and noise freaks and drag queens and experimental composers and jabbering street poets. You can thank punk rock for all of that.’ His work touched hundreds of other influential recordings, making his sonic footprint unmistakable in the music industry.
