Leeds United's promotion rivals Leicester City has announced a staggering loss of £90m in the 2022/23 reports and admitted a major FFP breach. The Foxes recorded significant losses of £89.7m from their Premier League relegation journey, and they think they have crossed the line on Profit and Sustainability rules .
If the independent board believes they have breached these guidelines, the Foxes may be hit with a point deduction. Big losses like these could make people worry about future PSR calculations. The EFL already think City will break the rules for the three-year cycle ending this summer. They've stopped them from buying new players, and the club might try to sell some players in June to get their money right. But if they lose £90m, it could cause problems later on.
The club's biggest expense is staff wages, which shows how much they underperformed on the field. The yearly staff wages were £206m, which is 116 per cent of their £177m revenue.Even when adjusting for a 12-month period, the wage expenditure is £190m, up from £182m the previous year. This makes it the eighth-highest in the Premier League for the 22-23 season, just £4m less than Aston Villa's wage bill, the largest outside the Big Six.
