Leeds United dressing room opinion on transfers should reassure anxious support

Refreshment has been hard to come by in a summer desert of exits, relegation, turbulence, strikes, transfer requests and injuries at Leeds United. Four arrivals have offered some nourishment, while Daniel Farke’s measured, forthright views have kept the passing weeks oiled with explanations and reassurance.

So, hearing from Luke Ayling on Friday night, after the West Bromwich Albion draw, in addition to Farke’s regular updates, was a helpful reality check. As any fan would, Ayling dispensed with pretence and admitted he couldn’t wait for the window to close. “There is a lot of uncertainty and a lot of players going,” said Ayling. “Hopefully, we will get a few in over the next few weeks, but we have a great squad in there. It’s a young group who really want to do well.

Hearing someone senior, other than Farke, reflect the same thoughts as so many fans, especially on the desire for new arrivals before September 2, speaks volumes. If that is Ayling’s view in front of a national television audience, you have to assume just as much is being passed up the chain inside the club.
