Leeds Rhinos coach Rohan Smith gives injury update as key duo sent to hospital

Leeds Rhinos duo Ash Handley and Tom Holroyd have both gone to hospital to determine the severity of the injuries picked up in Friday night's defeat to Warrington Wolves. The Rhinos were turned over 34-8 at Headingley, with Holroyd failing a HIA and Handley hurting his rib.

Holroyd left the field in the first half after a knock to the head. He was soon ruled out of the contest but went to hospital after feeling unwell. Handley, meanwhile, took a bang to the rib. Speaking post-match, head coach Rohan Smith said: "They have both gone to hospital to get checked out. Tom has been feeling unwell after failing his HIA, and Ash has got a possible cracked rib, so they’re both going to get checked out. I don’t know if that was a turning point, but it certainly didn’t help."Leeds took the lead through Harry Newman, but Warrington were much the better side at Headingley as their strong start under Sam Burgess continued.

The Rhinos hit back in the second half through Luis Roberts, but Wire soon took control again as Danny Walker darted over from the ruck, before further tries from Matt Dufty and Josh Thelwis completed the victory. Smith conceded: "We weren’t good enough for long enough in most parts of the game. We weren’t good enough in possession to put a bit of fatigue into the other team. Losing a few players with injuries was part of it as well, but we weren’t able to defend our goal-line as well as we have in other games.”
