Derek Chauvin's attorney Eric Nelson says the payout could make his client look guilty in the minds of jurors

Lawyers for George Floyd’s alleged killer Derek Chauvin claim a $27m payout to the Floyd family means Chauvin cannot get a fair trial

Nelson said: ‘I am gravely concerned with the news that broke on Friday… has incredible potential to taint the jury pool.’ The lawyer asked Judge Peter Cahill for a continuance to Chauvin’s trial, or change in location from Minneapolis, where jury selection for the trial is ongoing.

George Floyd’s brothers, Philonise and Rodney Floyd, hold hands with City Council President Lisa Bender during a news conference announcing a $27 million dollar settlement Judge Cahill says he will consider the request for a continuance, but said it was unlikely he’d afford either side greater say over jurors.
