Norris will start Sunday’s Japanese Grand Prix in third place, behind Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez.

Lando Norris will be trying to beat Red Bull pair Sergio Perez and Max Verstappen off the line in Japan.

Norris emerged from a pack of cars all running very similar times to take the place as best of the rest for McLaren on another Saturday where it was Red Bull who shone.Despite a 27th qualifying one-two for the Red Bull team, both drivers were quick to point out they are not as happy with their longer race pace.

Perez, meanwhile, echoed the views of his team-mate: “Let’s see what we are able to do tomorrow,” he said. “Obviously last year I was side by side with Max into turn one. So hopefully trying to redo that,” he said of his plans for the race. “So, I think we’ll be realistic. I’m always realistic when I say it. So I think our competition is with the guys behind and at the same time, I’ll do my best to push forward.”
