Blackburn man Elliott Simpson starts treatment for aggressive skin cancer at private hospital after being denied by NHS

A Blackburn man with an aggressive type of skin cancer has started his course of treatment at a private hospital as a new round of fundraising to pay for it kicks of this weekend.

The 26-year-old, who has been diagnosed with stage four malignant melanoma, is self-funding his own treatment due to NHS red tape barring him from receiving the second set of drugs needed to combat its spread. On Sunday at 3pm a football match Lancashire Police 11 and a Lancashire Fire Brigade team will take place at AFC Darwen’s ground in Anchor Road, Darwen.

“It is very worrying for us all that we do not have enough money to complete it. We have raised £80,000 so far. We are unbelievably grateful to the people who have donated. “He was a bit down a few days ago but his spirits have raised and he is feeling more positive again now. We are hoping to have his next treatment soon.
