If Brexit is delivered by polling day, Conservatives could benefit at the ballot box but if not, they are likely to be punished.

In a presentation to political journalists entitled Beyond The Bubble: The Battle For Unpopularity, Lord Hayward predicted turnout would drop dramatically.

There are also elections for mayors in Bedford, Copeland, Leicester, Mansfield, Middlesbrough and North of Tyne. "Considering there is the general perception that the grassroots of the Tory party are in total despair and immobile, 96% is the highest figure in this four-year cycle that's ever been achieved," said Lord Hayward.

With the Tories unlikely to make gains after their success in 2015, Labour - which already controls many metropolitan boroughs and unitary authorities - will be hoping to take control of Trafford, Calderdale and Dudley.

PotterWhiting Yes they are finished

SkyNews: The British public are waiting in the wings to show the frustration and anger in local election! UKIP will prosper and Nigel_Farage should be an MP!! Believe in UK a reason for it? THERESA go now, BREXIT stays, NO DEAL only deal, SORRY? 🇬🇧

I suspect this is somewhat an understatement. Being hit hard could well equate to utter devastation. Loss of activists, disappearance of donors and candidates changing allegiance or simply denying any former party affiliation. Moreover this may not apply only to the tories.

Durrrrh, do u finnnk

No shit Sherlock

What about the 120 000 deaths linked to tory austerity since 2010, Homelessness has increased 169%since 2010

If brexit doesn’t happen I for one will never vote again ...why bother ? Democracy died ,the spineless won

No shit Sherlock

Would it! It already has they will get annihilated

They don’t deserve to govern, neither do Labour.

Whoever u vote for means totally nothing as we have seen. No one government has the power to change anything. I along with millions of others will never vote again after the brexit shambles. None of them represent me or my country

And Labour

Go LibDems !!

Ya think? 🤣

They are going to get absolutely mullered.

Ukip here we come

Lack of Brexit progress bloody hell its been nearly 3 years up to now i think it’s a bit to late worrying about effecting council elections 😬😬😬

I have torn up my ballot card

Unless you been on a different planet, neither labour tories or lib dems going to get a fraction of the votes they normally get,its going to be spoil ballots all over the place.some cities man not have a overall majority,i believe lots of them will be left leaderless

Conservatives No one in their right mind will vote for a party that does not respect democracy.

And Labour I’m looking for alternatives why not anything is better than this lot.

Polling experts ? Are they the same ones that predicted, the last ge wrong and got brexit wrong as well ? .yea lets listen to them 😂😂

If the Tories go for no deal the country will be more than happy. Everyone is sick to the back teeth of brexit now and I personally would be more than happy to leave this week.

It's should hit all parties there all a discrace

Too right no leave no vote

Candidates sent to bat for their team from a clubhouse which their captain has set ablaze, after changing all the rules without team agreement, smashing the bats & signing on to their side the captain of the opposing team! Brilliant team work & leadership!

That's an understatement. Both main parties will see starting with local elections.

Just love 'experts'...…..

Not sure you need to be a polling expert to see that 🥴

Understatement of the century.

Merkel,Macron,May. Our future depends on these three Clowns

Good the Liars deserve it , Join UKIP for £4 a month and punish the Conservatives and theresa_may for their betrayal.

No shit!

I bet all those people standing behind her must be feeling disgusted for supporting her. It’s about time all conservatives campaign supporters are move to somewhere else.

No shit.

Would? You may want to replace it with WILL.........

'Having Theresa May as PM would hit Tories badly in council elections', says man stating the bleeding obvious.

Lack of progress will hit both main parties badly!

All Theresa May needs to do is leave Friday with no deal

The people want Brexit. If jeremycorbyn stood up for the will of the people he could become a hero. The Left was always traditionally anti-EU.

The article recycles the latest Tory attack line re the convicted Lab MP who voted last night - but doesn’t mention the convicted Tory MP who voted the opposite way. 🤔

How Labour can resolve the Brexit crisis – and tear down the Tories too | Owen JonesA soft Brexit would safeguard the economy, says Guardian columnist Owen Jones Nah. Love how Owen casually dismisses ‘London and Scotland’ and suggests something that will enrage Brexiters as his solution. It is delusional to think that a soft Brexit is going to heal the divide. Labour should focus on GeneralElection rather than resolving Brexit which is now beyond solving! PeoplesVote
