But no Tory is ever heard to defend Thatcher’s sell-offs today It is funny that at no point has anyone used the audited accounts of the previously nationalised companies as an argument in favour of bringing them back into public ownership. I wonder why that is? Today’s Observer criticises Labour for its “blind faith in public sector provision”. Does anyone remember what the old nationalised BT was like? Or the railways? Poor provision on a grand scale. Government is not good at running things; leave government to govern.
