Tom Watson will try to restore party unity at Labour's annual conference, with a speech drawing a line under the bid to oust him as deputy leader

Mr Watson also hardly helped things when he apparently earlier this week shouted at the leader of Momentum, Jon Lansman, who initiated the bid to topple him:"It's the hit man who missed!"Despite the row, Labour's deputy leader will set out a reconciliatory tone, saying in his speech tomorrow:"Discord is the great ill of mankind; and tolerance is the only remedy for it."

"Boris Johnson is putting Britain in the greatest danger we've faced as a nation since the summer of 1940," he is expected to claim.
