It mushrooms. Each incident begets others and persuades those not already carrying knives the only way to be safe or at least able to fight back is to carry a blade yourself. Only the realistic prospect of being caught can reverse this.

They say 'England and Wales', but where are the hotpots? Knife crime is virtually non-existent where I live in North Wales. Not so in London though.
