King Charles has asked for millions of pounds of profits from a £1bn per year Crown Estate offshore wind farm deal to be used for the 'wider public good”

Picture: AlamyThe King has asked for profits from a £1 billion-a-year Crown Estate wind farm deal to be used for the "public good" rather than go to the Royal Family.

But Charles has requested that the extra funds "be directed for wider public good", instead of to the Sovereign Grant, at a time when many are facing financial hardship. The Crown Estate - an ancient portfolio of land and property - belongs to the reigning monarch 'in right of The Crown' but it is not their private property.

A Buckingham Palace spokesperson said: "In view of the offshore energy windfall, the Keeper of the Privy Purse has written to the Prime Minister and Chancellor to share the King's wish that this windfall be directed for wider public good, rather than to the Sovereign Grant, through an appropriate reduction in the proportion of Crown Estate surplus that funds the Sovereign Grant."

He spoke about the "great anxiety and hardship" experienced by many trying to "pay their bills and keep their families fed and warm" during his televised message, which featured footage of a food bank and other scenes of meals being distributed to the homeless.

Oh what timing, go Prince Harry, you’ve just made your father feel guilty after many years .

I find it quite strange that the king, who is publicly funded is allowed to any personal assets in the first place. Surely it’s our money that was invested to start with.

What wider public good? For the NHS doctors and nurses and paramedics then?

Nice little bonus for the Tory thieves

Just pay taxes like real people you leech

But Sunak did say we can't use Our wind turbines that were built out of Our tax money cos it's too windy!? so wot kind of tomfoolery is this now?! And King Charles 3rd Net worth is £600mill & he still gets £20 from our taxes each year?!! Arent we the lucky ones!🤥 mrjamesob lbc

Genuine question - How can the Crown actually own anything that is off-shore?

KC:Great news for your country. Congrats to a job well done.🎉🌟👏🙂

It belongs to the people and always did. He didn't give it to anyone LIES again by KingCharlesTheCruel

Read Charles ( largest landowner on planet ) recent gave William a Billion Pound Plus property MO

A million for each person in the country would have been nice and cost less. It will be interesting to see how much trickles down to the common man or woman.

Yes! Our caring King.

RoyalFamily pay inheritance tax too that will help the ‘wider public good’ & set a good example to your subjects NotMyKing

How many illegals in 4 star hotels will that pay for? Help homeless Vets FIRST FFS

We won't see any of it.. lost in government some how

Where are these 6 offshore wind farms located?

Are we supposed to be grateful? This should all be going to the public purse, no one should own the seabed other than the state. Crown property?

This is a very commendable gesture, & a great help to the country. However, a few Questions. Can we see in writing the following: how much will this deal cost US; for what period of time; who will supply the material; are we just preparing the ground for a 5yr term then bk to HRH

Thank you your Megesty, your people need this at this moment in time. Just hope GOVT don't put into their pockets instead of us.

like the tories will let that happen

Better for the monarchy to keep the profits from the wind farms and instead pay death duties on their private assets

Good King Charles III, Monarchy is good for England!

Should we tap our forelocks ?!

I’m no royal fan but it seems he’s dammed if he does & dammed if he doesn’t. Don’t think it would have happened previously so I applaud him for that.

Such a thoughtful gesture ❤️ OurKing LongLiveTheMonarchy

Will that cover the jubilee, funeral,Andrews pay off and the coronation. Will it fuck

How about abolishing the Monarchy and taking ALL the profits and putting them for public good.

Better not give it to the Tories to look after then. Their version of the public good is unlikely to match his!

75% of profits already go to The Treasury, so this will only be his 25%. He doesn't have to give it away, so I suppose it's a nice gesture, but it rings a bit hollow when you hear that his Coronation is going to cost around £100m.

Like paying off his brothers crimes towards the public.

Or just pay inheritance tax (he chose not to)

Whom do the crown estate sell this green energy to? Where and How much tax do they pay?

Watch the government piss it all into the wind

Where did it go before?

Does the new monarch know what his government are doing to his people. And does he care ? Food banks, own brand food while they get subsidised meals

Just don’t give it to the Tory government. They’ll steal it.

Just more money for the MPs to keep using tax money as a personal piggy bank

Cheeky Charlie Boy its our land.. our money.. and no doubt tax payers money pumped into subsidising the wind farms anyway!

How kind to hand us back our money.

The Crown Estate boosted its net profit by 16% last year after a huge leasing round for wind farms off UK coast, producing a future pay-out of approximately £78 million for the Royals. The estate generated £312.7mln in net profit from revenues in the fiscal year ending in 2022

He will do so much good with this money

someone's feeling guilty about dodging all that inheritance tax hey? scroungers

That’s a good thing to do. It would have been better to route it directly to appropriate charities, rather than into the hands of Tories, who have no concept of the ‘wider public good “.

🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Nationalise the crown estate, sorted

Maybe pay inheritance tax. For the wider good
